WEEE Directive

The Waste Electrical and Electrornic Equipment (WEEE) Directive is now UK law. The legislation aims to make producers pay for the collection, treatment and recovery of waste electrical equipment. The regulation also mean that Suppliers/distributors of WEEE equipment have a part to play in reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill sites.

The amount of WEEE we throw away is increasing by approximately 5% each year and much of this waste ends up in landfill sites, where the toxins put communities at risk. UK households dispose of over 1.2 million tones of WEEE waste every year. This is the equivalent of 150,000 double decker buses and would fill the new Wembley Stadium 6 times Over.

Many electrical items that we throw away can be repaired or recycled. Recycling helps to save our natural resources and also reduces the environmenta1 and health risks associated with sending electrical goods to landfill.

As a Conscientious business, we at J Harries Refrigeration Ltd, also trading as 3 Harries Electrical and www.jharries.co.uk have chosen to group together with other retailers in joining the “Distributor Take Back Scheme” (DTS). Through this scheme, we have paid toward the provision of improved recycling facilities for our Customers.

This means that our Customers are able to take, without charge, any electrical equipment to Participating civic amenity sites run by their local councils (Information on sites local to our shops is displayed in store, or can be located via www.recyclemore.co.uk)

Under the WEFE regulations all new electrical goods should now be marked with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol shown above
